Important notice: This is beta version of the Philosophy Navigator application.
The Philosophy Navigator is a mobile app, which delivers to its mobile user, location-based information about a number of points of interest located in Athens, Greece, focusing on the 'unknown' Plato's Academy and its region.
The user can get information in about historical and modern day locations, in textual and multimedia form (pictures, videos, voice). Routes which guide the visitor around Athens to locate significant locations with a link to Plato’s Academy and identification of those in proximity of the user are provided by the app.
The information provided is available in 7 languages that can be selected by the user.
The Philosophy Navigator is developed by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the context of the "Academy of Plato - Paths to Knowledge" project, in partnership with the Foundation of the Hellenic World, which performs the selection and editing of the content and routes, as well as translation and clearance of content rights.
The application can operate with or without internet connection. In the presence of internet connection, the application can take advantage of Google Maps in order to present its information graphically and also exploit Google’s navigation services.
Upon installation, it is highly recommended to use the application in order to prefetch the content on the local device, so that you can avoid delays and massive data transfer while on mobile data network.
The application is provided free of charge. The content provided / presented can be used only in the context of the current application. Charges may apply upon network usage by your carrier(s).
The Philosophy Navigator has been co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and national resources within the framework of the project "Plato Academy - The Society and the Citizen" of the Operational Program "Education and Lifelong Learning".
